February 4, 2019

Texas’ largest independent insurance agent association and the state’s leading workers’ compensation insurance carrier have formed a strategic partnership.

The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) announced the partnership with Texas Mutual Insurance Co. at IIAT’s Joe Vincent Agency Management Seminar, held in Austin Jan. 27-29.

Through the new development, Texas Mutual becomes IIAT’s endorsed workers’ compensation carrier for the association’s 1,500 members. Texas Mutual also will work with the agent association to develop programs to support independent agents across Texas.

Speaking at the seminar on Jan. 28, Texas Mutual President and CEO Rich Gergasko said the company does “everything we can to help promote the independent agency system. … Service to our agents and our policyholders is at the core of what we do.”

He said the company is proud to take the role as IIAT’s endorsed carrier. “We currently protect over 70,000 Texas businesses and 1.4 million Texas workers. Our mission is to see that they get home safely to their families every day. We look forward to providing more of that service to your customers and clients as we move forward with this relationship.”

He added that in addition to developing programs, the company would be helping train agency employees, helping agents prepare for the future and helping them take care of their clients,

In a media release announcing the partnership, IIAT noted Texas Mutual’s industry safety groups and customized safety services aimed at helping businesses control their workers’ compensation costs. In addition, the association pointed out Texas Mutual’s network discounts, dividend program and the fact that Texas business owners have received more than $2.5 billion in dividends over the last 20 years.

“IIAT and Texas Mutual share a vision of a strong, local independent agent distribution channel,” IIAT Executive Director and President Marit Peters said in the release. “Through this partnership we can empower agents to deliver the best in service and workers’ compensation to their clients.”
