A tropical disturbance currently moving inland over eastern Mexico is expected to re-enter the Gulf of Mexico on Friday, according to information from the National Hurricane Center.
The NHC said Tropical Storm Cristobal has maximum sustained winds of 60 mph with higher gusts. The storm is expected to become a tropical depression by late on June 4. However, the NHC said it expects the Cristobal to begin regaining strength on Friday.
As of 10 am CDT on June 3, an NHC graphic showed the possibility of Cristobal heading toward the Central Gulf coast. According to the NHC, “storm surge, heavy rainfall, and wind impacts beginning over the weekend along portions of the U.S. Gulf Coast from Texas to the Florida Panhandle” are possible.
“While it is too soon to determine the exact location, timing, and magnitude of these impacts, interests in these areas should monitor the progress of Cristobal and ensure they have their hurricane plan in place,” the NHC stated.
