“Texas handgun owners would no longer need a license or training….” If you need a license and training to operate a vehicle, you should need one for a gun too.

I used to be a certified NRA instructor. We instructed people how to safely handle a firearm and not how to be a marksman. I’ve had a number of friends and insurance customers accidently shot either themselves or other family members because they did not know how to safely handle a firearm. The licensing course is mainly about safety and not marksmanship which is why the licensing requirement should continue to be required. I live in Texas.

I went through the TX LTC training back in 2018 and I don’t remember any training on how to safely handle a firearm. Training was more focused on the law. When I did my range test the instructor didn’t review basic firearm instruction. I believe they have Intro to Firearms classes for those that need to learn how to handle and shoot a firearm. I’m ok with not having a license to carry although i’m all for the continued background and registration process.

Texas doesn’t have such a great history with deregulation. Why, it seems like it was only 2 months ago when the deregulated energy industry in Texas was stymied by this strange and unknowable thing called “winter.”

all it takes is one “good guy with a gun” to have a bad day.

seriously…why don’t other countries have these problems?

It also only takes 1 good guy to have a good day and save lives with his/her actions. Look at the guy who stopped the shootings with his AR at a church.

HO polices used to cover Earthquake and Windstorm damage as insured perils. It won’t be long before HO policies in Texas will exclude BI and PD from the use of firearms.
