Fla. Agency Wins Chubb Charity National Golf Challenge

J. Rolfe Davis Insurance of Maitland, Fla. was the top finisher in the Fifth Annual Chubb Charity Challenge, which raised more than $800,000 for charities in the United States and Canada.

Golf teams representing insurance agencies, their customers and Chubb representatives from the United States and Canada competed in the two-day event at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga. The proceeds were divided among charitable organizations chosen by the teams and based on their place in the competition. The event, sponsored by the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, followed 43 regional tournaments played between May and September.

J. Rolfe Davis Insurance of Maitland, FL, donated its $50,000 prize to Apopka, Fla.-based Quest Inc., which helps people with disabilities. Higginbotham & Associates, Fort Worth, TX, finished in second place and donated its $40,000 prize to Lena Pope Home, a behavioral health facility in Fort Worth. Finishing third was Rogers & Norman, Seattle, which donated its $35,000 prize to Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center, Seattle. Rogers & Norman won the top prize in 2003, and Higginbotham & Associates won the event in 2002.

This year’s event raised $818,000 for U.S. and Canadian charities. The prize money was raised based on each team paying $2,000 to enter a regional tournament. Of the total amount raised, $364,000 was awarded to the charities chosen by the winning teams in the qualifying rounds. The remaining $454,000 was divided among charities selected by teams that played at the finals in Georgia.

Since the national tournament began in 2000, $2,965,000 has been raised for charities. Last year, the tournament raised $746,000. In 2002, the tournament raised $574,000, and $475,000 was raised in 2001. In 2000, the first year of the national event, $350,000 was raised for charities.
