Tell ’em to quit waiting. Katrina was two years ago. Tell ’em to get off their dead asses and help themselves.

What am I missing here? An un-married 37 year old woman living with her boyfriend and their 4 teenagers in a trailer in the backwoods of Alabama are “waiting” for the government to give them a “grant” to buy a new trailer? Didn’t these people ever hear of personal responsibility and self-reliance? I agree with C.C. that they need to do something to improve their situation, not just sit around waiting for a handout. One would think that two adults could have worked somewhere and saved enough money to buy a mobile home policy before this happened. If these people are that dumb, lazy, or both, the government shouldn’t be handing out “grants” from the hard earned money of responsible taxpayers.

Does it make a difference WHAT they lived in… are we as society too high and mighty that we think that we are better than anyone else?… so they didn’t have a mobile home policy… there are alot of people who own homes that could not afford homeowners policies…right or wrong we should not judge these people… that still does not solve their and so many other’s problem… imagine if it were YOU?

If it were me, I would have been working my tail off to save the money to buy a new residence. People need to be responsible for their own choices. Not purchasing insurance is a choice, it is a lot easier to afford insurance than it is to afford a new home.

Let’s see….$91 Million, probably something like $85 Million siphoned off into “administrative costs” and the balance finding its way into state government officials’ freezers. Sounds like Welfare all right.

We should not be so quick to judge! We don’t even know all the facts. The mother is ill and the others may work, but I am sure it is hard to get back on your feet after such a disaster!

RAL: This woman wasn’t “ill”. Yes, she may have suffered a heart attack, but I”ll bet the stress from Katrina was just the “straw that broke the camel’s back.” Otherwise healthy 37 year old women don’t just have a heart attack. Family history, obesity, lack of exercise, poor diet, and genetics all play a part. Notwithstanding, these people have a responsibility to take some action, not sit around for two years waiting for the Golden Goose to drop a free egg in their laps. It’s unfortunate, but they’re adults who need to take responsibility for their decisions. They didn’t seem too concerned over parenting four children. They didn’t seem too concerned about basic mobile home insurance. And, they don’t seem too concerned about getting on with their lives until somebody else makes it easy. No sympathy here.

RAL: we’re not judges, we’re simply stating the facts. Apparently you have a problem with that. The world is full of people who just don’t get it. People like this are are a dis-incentive to hard working folks everywhere. You can be dirt poor and still do something to improve your lot. Putzing around in a garden next to a FEMA trailer isn’t one of them.

Ok what i dont get is how come it is taking so long. I am on the list around 130. No i dont live in a fema trailer but my house got messed up and 2 of my kids cant live here cause of the damage.I have to live here cause i have no where else to go. All i have to say is they need to look at all the people that got a fat insurance check an a fema check and skip them an go to the ones that didnt have insurance or get a fat fema check and do them repairs first. cause alot of people got fat checks and didnt even bother to fix there house up and that is bull. they were to busy buying big tvs and other things like gambeling over at the boats and doing other stuff. that is what they need to do is go by how much everyone got and figure out who got enough money to fix their house up and didnt and deny them. and the people living in fema trailers half of them got big checks and wasted them. not every one did but alot of the did. i saw one family trying to fit a 52 inch tv in a fema trailer and you are saying they need help no they dont they should of took that money and help get a used trailer or something. that is what p’s me off. i know alot of people didnt get enought o get a home and them people deserve the help but the others dont. well that is all i have to say and i need the help just as much as every one else does
