This article is very old news. See the link below for a more up to date story on the federal indictment of Scruggs and his not guilty plea.

Thanks for the info. Do you think Trent Lott’s resignation all of a sudden has anything to do with this? Really – if Strom Thurmond could serve as long as he did anything is possible. You can’t use the “I need to spend more time with my family excuse” when your kids are grown and gone.

If there is any justice, Dickie Scruggs will wind up dis-barred, disgraced, and in jail.

I am not normally one to buy into conspiracy theories, but it seems odd that the industry’s two biggest enemies have both been muzzled in the past month. Could it be that the industry has influenced the powers that be to get some dirt on these guys to shut them up?

Come on Mr. O…the only conspiracy here is that between Dickie and some other unscrupulous attorneys. I’d be willing to bet that Trent Lott had an idea there was an indictment on the way, which hastened his resignation from the Senate.

On another note, this seems to serve as affirmation that Scruggs and his cronies are the muck raking bottom feeders that has been alleged by many (including myself) all along.

While an idictment is not a conviction, it is hard to believe that the FBI and Justice Department do not have some pretty good evidence to justify the indictment. And even if they are untimately acquitted, the damage to their reputation should preclude anyone taking them too seriously in the future.

This is an attorney who made his living in the shadows for years, collecting large fees and helping few. That his has finally been trapped doesn’t mean there’s some plot behind it. Often it takes someone on the inside to bring someone like this down – and he’s not down and out yet. The King of Torts.
