That last comment by the tobacco guy is in fairly poor taste.

I hate cigarettes, but have no sympathy for smokers and their claims. Nobody is so stupid as to think there aren’t serious health ramifications associated with smoking. However, on the other had (and to be hypocritical) I would love to see the insurance companies go out of business. I don’t mind seeing tobacco companies punished for selling a deadly product, but the rewards of a verdict should not go to smokers (or their families) who had a choice to kill themselves or not.

It is beyond comprehension that any money whatever would be awarded to any smoker. Members of the legal profession (of which I am one) who press these suits (no pun intended) should be ashamed of themselves. Upholding and honoring the law is more than a search for deep pockets. Much more.

To those who are reading this and are either present or past smokers, do you recall your first encounter with a cigarette? The coughing? The hacking? The gagging? Did it occur to you that the act of taking hot smoke into your lungs might not have been the best decision–much less to continue to do so for 40+ years?

It was more important for you to emulate the good-looking Marlboro Man, or to be “Kool”. And now you want to be paid for it?

    Stupid is as stupid does.

Having the insurance companies go out of business would put a lot of us out of work. Then people would have to pay for their own stupidity & mistakes, what a concept! Wouldn’t need attorneys either. Oh, and the tobacco companies could continue in business because there would not be any money to pay claims?? Hmmm.

I mistyped in my earlier post: I said “insurance companies” when I meant “TOBACCO companies go out of business”.

Sorry,Bob, but I disagree. The tobacco companies admitted fault in placing addictive chemicals in tobacco products to keep customers smoking.Although victims of tobacco products had a choice whether to smoke or not, they did not have a choice when it came to addictive additives, that made it extremely difficult and/or impossible for some to quit.

It is incredible how people are blaming their illness to their poor choice and are now they are looking for easy money..
