it probably would not have mattered if he had the sign on or not, due to the other driver having a DUI! so, why not the trooper giving the kid a warning, when in fact he was not at-fault… your county is going to get enough money out of the DUI driver… the buggy probably was not able to be horse-driven… next question, if drugged, what about the horse? um… i can forsee more damages!

The other driver was an unguided missile, waiting for something to cross his/her path. I wonder what the insurance regulation requirements are for such buggies. Had he hit a phone pole or stree sign, a lawyer somewhere would have ‘determined’ that the pole or sign was too close to the road. Now he gets to sue the kid because he operated a vehicle in an unsafe manner or condition.

The objective behind the orange triangle is to make the buggy visible in dark conditions. The Amish have agreed to reflective stripes that are not as “flashy” as the orange triangle. If it makes them seen, what difference does it make if it is an orange triangle or a gray stripe. Let them be.

What happened to the horse? Was it totaled?

if you noticed, i was asking the same thing… if we dragged the buggy, where’s the horse? again, like i said before, it did not matter if they had triangle or stripes that reflect…problem it was a drunk driver that hit… who had no vision at all, but how did they find him if it was a hit/run?

It’s always interesting to me to see articles on buggy accidents from states other than PA. Rarely, if ever, is the fate of the horse commented on. In PA, the reports always state what happened to the horse. Horses are defenseless victims of those who operate them under unsafe conditions in the name of religion as well as those who operate the vehicles that hit them.

definately… if you think about it, that horse is the engine for that buggy, but it’s also like having a family pet… you have to care for it in order for you to get the use of it’s power to pull you down the road. the amish folk believe in a simple life, and sometimes i wish we would all go back to that… that includes hard work and no sluffing off for welfare… having lived in pa, the amish do make great food… miss the fresh icecream…

The other driver was cited for a hit and run and the lead for the article is to mention what the buggy driver did?

I have a serious problem with that.
