Well, well….what a surprise. Since SF was hit a few yrs ago with a Billion dollar + settlement for requiring shops to use non-OEM parts for repairs, they’ve been looking for new ways to screw their insureds in order to enhance their bottom line. Looks like they found a way…..almost

I certainly don’t want my car fixed with the cheapest part available — or by the cheapest mechanic!

Is that why you shop at Wal-Mart when you could patronize a more expensive store for the same item?

STATE FARM IS 1 OF THE ONLY CO LEFT THAT ACTUALLY USE OEM PARTS EXCEPT FOR BUMPERS!
BY INSURANCE IN 15 MIN AND SEE WHAT KIND OF COVERAGE YOU GET OH WAIT NOW ITS 1.5 MIN. READ YOUR POLICY AND WHAT IT COVERS BEFORE SIGNING DUH! SAVE MONEY UNTIL YOUR CAR NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED, THE PARTS THAT ARE USED ARE A/M AFTER MARKET, BODY PANELS DO NOT FIT CORRECTLY AND IT COMES DOWN TO THE BODY SHOP IF THEY HAVE ANY DIGNITY TO MAKE IT LOOK AS GOOD AS POSSIBLE BUT MOST DONT BECAUSE OF THE EXTRA TIME INVOLVED THAT THEY DO NOT GET PAID FOR!
ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE GOTTEN BETTER STILL NOT PERFECT AND THE PARTS ARE NOT COATED AS THE FACTORY REPLACEMENT ARE EITHER! HOW MUCH DO CARS COST THESE DAYS? BUT DONT ASK FOR THEM TO BE REPAIRED CORRECTLY ESPECIALLY IF YOUR DUMB ENOUGH TO BY SUCH CUT RATE INSURANCE!!!

I f the parts are comparable to the more expensive parts who cares what they cost. The shops will probably get the cheaper parts wherever they can and charge the customer (insurance co.) for tyhe more expensive parts anyway

you obviously know nothing about the business. The insurance big wigs control that. You’re an idiot. Collision shops cannot over charge for a part unless they are completely a scam place. they are being watched non stop

I did a stint as a consultant for a group of collision repair shops back East a few years ago. The topic of aftermarket parts came up many times and I sponsored a small test project comparing OEM vs aftermarket parts for price, quality, and longevity. Not surprisingly the aftermarket parts varied by brand. Some were higher in quality than OEM, some were worse. In all cases they were cheaper than OEM. The collision shop group all rejected my findings on the grounds that they made more money on OEM parts and yes, some used aftermarket parts and charged them out as OEM wirh OEM part numbers and prices.

I quit my consulting gig with the body shops out of disgust.

State farm is forcing the dealerships to use parts trader. The dealership is forced to pay hundreds if dollars monthly to parts trader. Cheaper parts are also less quality. Parts rust out and don’t fit properly. The consumer ends up with lesser quality and linger fix times. The dealership is left with lesser margins in an industry that is working on low margins already.
