Good question. We own 3 mopeds in our household. Mostly for my husband and adult children so they don’t need to borrower our one and only car. We find them to be very economical run operate. With that said, my son was in a serious one-vehicle accident this spring. We were lucky he survived. The ER doctor said that the full size motorcycle helmet he was wearing saved his life. If he was wearing a half-helmet his head injury would have been more serious and likely fatal. No, alcohol was not a factor in the accident. A wet road with grit was the reason he lost control.
Since moped use is higher in the “DUI Crowd” – I wonder if alcohol was a factor?
