Officials Suspect Fire at Georgia Wal-Mart Set Intentionally

December 5, 2014

Fire officials say they believe a recent blaze at a metro Atlanta Wal-Mart was set intentionally.

Gwinnett County fire spokesman Tommy Rutledge said in a statement that the fire at the department store in unincorporated Snellville on Nov. 30 caused smoke damage to the building and also damaged some clothing in the men’s section.

Rutledge says no injuries were reported and employees were able to douse most of the fire with portable extinguishers before the fire department arrived.

Rutledge said authorities are working with store managers and have found a person of interest in the case. Rutledge said Georgia Arson Control Inc. offers rewards of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of arsonists.
