I’ve known Mr. McCarty for twenty five of his twenty six years at the Department of Insurance. Change may be a good thing sometimes, but change for change sake rarely is. He has been a steady hand during an era of shaky markets. Florida is in better shape having had him involved in or at the helm of the decisions our state’s policy makers enact regarding this industry. The fact that he is viewed as both pro industry and anti industry is a testament to his impartiality and commitment to doing what he thinks is right. That duality probably has more to do with the whims of his bosses, but I feel better knowing that no matter what political direction he gets, his years of experience will guide him in avoiding whatever land mines lay waiting during the execution of those directions. Whether the legislature was pushing policy too far towards the industry’s position or his elected bosses were urging him to “put a human face” on the decision, Mr. McCarty always found a way to balance both perspectives. I hope the other elected members of the cabinet see what an asset Mr. McCarty is to them and choose a different path than the Governor. Thank you for your years of service to our state, Mr. McCarty.

It is time for Kevin to find a new career doing something out of the public sector. This guy is doing the happy dance at the suggestion we may get someone who has a better grasp of insurance and who will reverse the trend of stupid form filings that gut coverage for a few dollars in savings. The MGA system in Florida needs serious review. this is a way to siphon $ millions out the back door in profits while the carrier appears to be flat. No other states would allow the nonsense that has been achieved in Florida. I hope Rick Scott looks to those in the know and does not appoint any one already in the Dept. We need new blood and new leadership to come in and correct the entire atmosphere at OIR.

Losing Kevin McCarty would be a reat disservice to the insurance consumers of Florida. Good Luck Governor in finding anyone with the insurance and legal knowledge that Kevin has. While I may not always agree with his decisions, I believe that he tries to do what he thinks is the right thing. Kevin is very well regarded on the national level as well. It will be Florida’s loss.

It seems to me that Kevin is at the whim of whomever is the governor. I remember thinking that he was terrible under Crist but a lot better under Scott. As a consumer, I’d like to have access to some AM Best rated insurance carriers that can also write my auto and umbrella coverage..with the same carrier, not Geico or Progressive. When one of the ‘yahoos’ makes that happen, I’ll consider the insurance market repaired.
