Good article — this is what gets my dander up about Uber and the other TNC programs. “We are above regulation” attitude. It is not that the taxi cab regulation are too severe, because they have a different app based way to call for a ride or the rules that everyone else in the transportation industry must follow. Looking at the regulations that they are complaining about “requirements for commercial insurance, paying city licensing fees, signage identifying vehicles and mandatory background checks for drivers.” What part of those regulations are bad? Uber says they have the insurance (which is sometimes up for debate), no they don’t pay licensing fees, no they don’t have signage on the car – which magnetic signs could remedy and they say that they do background checks for drivers. So we are at the points of a license to operate and payment of taxes. Why is this “burdensome” ?????
