North Carolina Agent Charged with Embezzlement

Insurance agent Amneris Deleon, of Wilmington, N.C., was arrested and charged with one count each of embezzlement by an insurance agent and accessing a computer to defraud or obtain property.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Deleon—the owner and operator of ADE Multiservice in Wilmington—of collecting approximately $1,200 from a customer over the course of eight months for a worker’s compensation policy that did not exist. Investigators allege that Deleon created a fraudulent document to make it appear as if a valid policy existed.

Deleon was arrested on Jan. 30 in New Hanover County and released on a $2,500 bond.

The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.
