I understand your point, but I am not sure the tone of your reply will get anyone to change their view on the topic. It is inherently unsafe and dangerous, but at what point do we draw a line and say, no more regulations? According to the article, this bill was brought about as 4 kids died; how many kids died because of drug overdoses, alcohol issues, DUIs, violence. We have a lot of problems in this country, but I am not sure we need to pass a law every time something goes wrong. My $0.02.

Excuse me “insurance is fun!” , but speaking as an Alabama citizen, I take offense to your rhetoric. So you know, I have a college education, not toothless, only kiss cousins on the cheek, and I even bathe every day. You know sometimes that truck may be all the family has as a vehicle and the bed is the only place for the teenagers to ride. Do you not have poor people where you come from? And I don’t know what you mean by “especially in the South”, but I will tell you that my parents raised us to be independent, hard-working, God-fearing, family-oriented, patriotic, self-reliant and strong willed people. They did not need any politician to tell them how raise their children to be good adults (one brother is an ordained minister and electronic specialist and the other is a nuclear medicine technologist and volunteer rescue diver). We all are married with children. (all of us in our 20s when we became parents). So save your ignorant assumptions about things you know nothing about. I suppose every decision you have ever made as a parent has been perfect and about reproach. Or even better–no parent up north is capable of such ignorance or poor decision making. Just us hicks down here in the South. Just us toothless, cousin-kissin’, backwoods folks that elect our same kind as politicians. My own son was thrown from a back of a truck that the cab was too small for him to ride in with his friends when he was 17. They had been camping and went for breakfast the next morning. The driver overcompensated when he ran off the road and hit a hole and the truck started flipping. My son landed face first in the road. He was banged up pretty terribly–as was his friend in the back with him. The State Trooper told me that if he had been in the front of the truck, he would have been killed instantly. Since that side was completely flattened from it flipping 6 times. It can go either way I guess. My son is now 25 and happily married.

Please, follow a little advice my Mom gave us (as Mothers have down here for ages)…”If you don’t have anything nice or worthwhile to say, it is best to stay silent.”

What ever happened to the maxim: “Do as I say do, not as I do”? That said, there is not much benefit to passing a law o one is going to enforce.

If seatbelts are required to ride INSIDE, then seatbelts should be required to ride in bed, which is WAY more dangerous!

Are they seatbelts on motorcycles? How many more are killed on motorcycles each year than from being in accidents involved in being in the bed of a truck? From what I could find over 2000 motorcyclists (on average) are killed each year. The number of
those dying from riding in the bed of a pickup was around 200
(on average). I am not an advocate for people riding in truck
beds. I am an advocate for people using common sense over the government passing yet another law that restricts our ability
to be responsible for ourselves. And that is what we need more
of these days–more people taking responsibility for themselves.

I believe you missed the point. Riding a motorcycle is dangerous. There is no regulation requiring that teens can’t ride on the back of a bike. While I think it’s stupid to ride in the back of a pickup on the interstate, I also think it’s stupid to ride on the interstate on a motorcycle. But just because it’s stupid doesn’t mean that it should be illegal.

Abuse rates in Christian Churches, including sexual, are lower than governmental. Also, making a child go the Church is not abuse. Contrary to your belief, a child will be led, they do not get to lead themselves. That is what makes a parent, and a child. So they will do whatever I tell them to do. Is going to School abuse? They don’t like going there. Forcing them to go to Church is no different, except because that little voice in your head screams it is foul play, and remains silent on school which is the equivalent.

These double standards in the heads of my fellow people growing up, and it has not changed since I was a kid, is what made me become religious.

It is a clear load of crap and yet many people believe it…Why? Because again I must reiterate this, the little voice in your head, is screaming it again and again, building you up into a rage. And it is happening with billions of people with the same screaming voice, and same illogical reactions.

Do you know who that voice is? When you realize it isn’t you, you will realize how wrong you are. It is Satan.

I don’t care how extreme that sounds to you, you will figure it out eventually it is just true.

It defies logic for that voice to exist otherwise, against the numbers, against protecting our children.

The only possibility is it is against our children, against our nature, and against…Well God.

Please explain for example why we are hyper focused on the failure of the Church to protect children, considering in 50 years there were 17,000 cases to 412,000 priests and nearly 1.2 billion people. Yes. That is a figure that is what is that? .000001% of Catholics?

Then we have no studies practically at all for governments (ergo no accountability, for real unlike the Church) and the best study to date estimates 10%.

Even if the numbers of people reporting were off by 1000 times, the school would still be 10% vs .001. If the amount reporting were off by 100000 times, it would still be .1 to 10%. Do you get the point yet?

Yet people like you, go after the Church for it’s wrong doings, and say you have more knowledge. Totally makes sense mathematically, doesn’t it?
