This is stupid. I live on the ocean just a bit north of Miami. I have lived here since 1984 and I can tell you for a fact that there has been absolutely no rise in the sea level here. I’ve read some reports that say the reason we are not seeing any sea level rise is because as glaciers melt, the weight of them being taken off of land masses causes the land to rise (as is happening in Greenland). This land rise is compensating for any extra water in the sea. Then I read NASA’s reports that show that Antartica is collecting 120 billion tons of new ice annually and that far outweighs the glacier losses. Not to mention the polar seas have far more ice in them now then they did in the 1920’s (the north sea was reported ice free up until the 81st parallel in 1922, yet it is still fully iced above the 75th parallel during summers now.) Let’s not forget that top NASA scientists have also reported that due to a change in solar pattern combined with a change in Pacific ocean currents, we are about to go into a rapid global cooling… So yeah, move your houses for some made up threat of sea level rise…
Just because you don’t believe something is happening does not mean others are stupid for taking preventative action before something terrible happens to their homes (or so they believe).
Homeowners aren’t asking for any government handouts. The government is not forcing them to sell their homes nor is the government taking their land via eminent domain.
People want to move. It doesn’t impact you at all. What’s your problem with them making this decision for, if nothing else, their own peace of mind?
I guess since you live on the ocean a bit north of Miami you would know about how, when, and why their neighborhood floods. You need to go down there and tell them to wait this out until the land rises.

The fact is, the sea levels have been rising. They were rising even during the nineties to 08 period when Antarctica was adding ice, they will more rapidly rise as Antarctic ice diminishes, rather than increases.

Note that 2015 and 2016 have both been the hottest years on record, consecutively. 2017 is already on pace for that. I know I shouldn’t have to say this, but the hotter it gets, the faster it will melt, and the faster the sea level will rise.
These communities are smart to be making a plan of action, or moving inward altogether. There are only so many things that dikes and sea-walls can hold back.
Some people source blogs run by science deniers who cite Young Earthers for their “hard data”, others source left-wing news sites who site actual scientific data for their reporting.
You may not like the link, but the source of their data is the same as if I chose a scholarly source. I just wanted a pretty map so you guys wouldn’t get lost having to read a paragraph of data.
See: your ignoring of the content of the post tells me that you aren’t actually interested in learning beyond where you have drawn your mental line in the sand, so to speak. If you want to have a thorough understanding of weather patterns, I’m afraid that NOAA and Mother Jones both are relying on very limited data. You will need 400 to 500 years of records in order to more effectively understand what is happening today and what tomorrow may hold for us. Between now and when that kind of data is available, I’ll agree that ‘the voices’ in your head is to be considered conclusive.
