Jack. lawsuit abuse is not the only problem they have in sunny Florida. Every single week, we see the stories of people defrauding others, even in insurance. Most I have seen deal with employees defrauding their employers. Usually, a long term employee who had the trust of the owners. They get caught, but this type of thing goes on all the time.

The lawyers fund the politicians to get them elected. Then the politicians change the laws to open up more avenues for lawsuits. The lawyers get richer, giving more money to politicians to get them elected.

And then lefties cry about money in politics while the lawyers secretly laugh at them . . .

The promblem in Florida is the fox is guarding the hen house. Lawyers compromise 97% of the Florida Legislature which is basically a part time job. They only meet for a 60 day session. Obviously which such a high percentage of law firms represented in the state legislature they will never entact any reforms that will limit their income.

Strangely, the Florida Legislature is Republican dominated with a 23-15 majority in the Senate and 75-41 in the House. And no, they are not attorneys. According to the National Conference of State Legislators, 27% of Florida legislators are attorneys. Highest is business owners and businessmen, total 35% https://goo.gl/NwKiRi

I am not a lawyers and don’t get any money from them. In 2016, Business, Finance, Insurance, and health care interests gave $15 million to the Florida Legislature, while the lawyers gave a mere $4 million. I’m not saying the trial lawyers aren’t a force in Tallahassee; they are, but look at the money laid out against them.

The fact is that the trial lawyers defend consumers from the excesses of business and corporations. This Republican dominated legislature isn’t going to help consumers, so who else do they have? Yes, there are abuses, but not what this biased article says. This is a very one sided hack job that does not attempt to balance the good being done or the facts of the case. The point of view of the Chamber in this study is that if anyone besides them win in court, it’s bad. That’s just not the case.,

Our Constitution is set up to give consumers a day in court before a judge and jury. If anyone thinks it’s easy to get a jury to give up money these days, talk to people. Everyone is very suspicious that people are taking advantage, and reluctant to give awards. It’s not what the Chamber says.

I do not live in Florida, but I do work for an insurance company in Florida.

Frankly, I laugh at the stupidity of Floridians. The attorneys get high awards for a few clients. The rest of the citizens of Florida pay higher rates for their premiums.

Fortunately, I get bonus pay to come to Florida and work. So, I get the higher pay for having to deal with the Florida attorneys, and back home I pay a reasonable insurance premium. How much less do I pay for insurance in my home state? Well, I pay $850 per year for coverage that would cost about $8,000 in Florida. Even factoring in for the fact that my state has zero hurricane risk, my insurance rates are far less than that paid by Floridians.

By the way, I’m an attorney. I have brought suit against insurance companies in my home state. I still recognize that in Florida the pockets of a few are lined at the expense of the many. I am amazed at the large number of attorneys from “fourth tier” law schools that practice in Florida. From my experience, most attorneys that sue insurance companies are from the bottom of their classes — they are the dregs of the legal field in the eyes of their fellow attorneys.

Wait until you see the lawsuit from the bridge collapse against the contractors and suppliers. I promise you they don’t have enough insurance.

The Kalitan decision out of the 4th DCA (West Palm Beach) was authored by a lifetime Fedralist Society member appointed by Rick Scott. The decision was based upon principles and protections of equal protection in the US Constitution. Far left liberal agenda? Not so much.
