I continue to find it amazing that elected officials continue to beat the drum of gun free zones when the concept clearly does not work. Very rarely have these madmen ever attacked victims in areas that are not all ready “Gun Free Zone”, you see the problem is that murderers and other criminals do not follow laws or posted signs.
I think we can all agree that the bottom line problem is that the individuals who attack in these mass killings are mentally unstable and if we as a nation really want to solve the problem of mass shootings we need to attack the problem of mental illness. These types of things rarely happened in the past when those with mental illness where properly evaluated and if a threat to themselves or others were institutionalized.
On top of that we need to start holding public officials criminally responsible for failing to act on notification of problem individuals such as the Parkland shooter.
I continue to find it amazing that we ignore the increase in assault rifle shootings since 2004 as well as support and rally behind the decrease in access to mental health as well as appropriate school funding. Occam’s razor

I would encourage you to find out exactly what an Assault Rifle is prior to using the term.
In all of the shootings that have happened with center fire rifles not one has been a select fire rifle they have all been via semi automatic weapons. Not that this makes the situation any better for the families of deceased or the injured. I just get upset every time someone yells about assault rifles when in fact that term was only brought about by the anti gun lobby pushing it.
I would encourage anyone who is against “assault rifles: as the term is now being used to look at the two websites below:
Both of these weapons are very similar in function, shoot the same ammunition, have available 30 round magazines and similar accuracy.
If you base your decisions purely on the pictures then the mini-14 would be the preferred weapon for safety as it is not scary looking like the SR-556. At the end of the day about the only thing that most shooters could do faster with a AR 15 style weapon vs the mini 14 is swap magazines and I am not 100% certain about that advantage.
Should we ban all semi auto weapons, in my opinion, not unless the tyrannical government is looking for another civil war, which I am not proposing for.
