Georgia Volunteer Firefighter Arrested for Arson

A volunteer firefighter from Nicholls, Ga., was arrested and charged with three counts of arson after a fire at a wood structure in Alma, Ga., according to a statement from the Georgia Department of Insurance (GADOI).

Investigators in Safety Fire Commissioner Jim Beck’s Office responded to a fire on Feb. 10 located at Old Dixie School Road in Alma. After further investigation, it was determined that the fire was intentionally sent upon the old wood structure.

As a result, volunteer firefighter Jamie Hutchinson, 32, of Nicholls was arrested and charged with three counts of arson in the first degree.

One of these counts is for the Bacon County fire investigators responded on Feb. 10. A juvenile has also been charged for the Old Dixie School Road fire.

Bacon County officials say that they have had approximately 13 fires in the last 40 days that could be attributable to Hutchinson. She is currently in the Bacon County jail.

The Georgia Forestry Commission is assisting with this investigation. First‐degree arson is a felony with a penalty of five to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $50,000.
