Charter Bus Collision in Florida Injures 34

Authorities say two charter buses carrying Florida children with learning disabilities crashed, sending 34 people to a hospital with minor injuries.

The Tampa Bay Times reports 91 children and seven adults were traveling in the buses that collided Friday in Lakeland, Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol said one of the buses braked suddenly when a pickup truck that was towing a trailer slowed down to turn into a driveway. The bus driver couldn’t see he was slowing down because the trailer’s lights were defective. The driver of the second bus then rammed into the bus from behind.

Three adults and 31 students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities cited the second bus driver for careless driving. They fined the truck driver for driving with defective lights.
