Smith Elected President of Independent Insurance Association of Georgia

The Independent Insurance Association of Georgia (IIAG) has elected Ash L. Smith as president.

Smith is an executive vice president of Blanchard & Calhoun Insurance Agency in Augusta, Ga., working in the risk management and insurance industry for more than two decades.

Prior to his role as IIAG President, Smith served as the association’s chairman of the board, its vice president, secretary treasurer, and as chairman of both the Young Agents and InsurPac Committees.

Smith earned the Certified Authority on Workers’ Compensation (CAWC) designation in 2015. He has served as Exchange Club of Augusta’s Insurance Chairman since 2009; currently serves as secretary/treasurer of Mortgage Bankers Association of Augusta; is a past chairman of Georgia Agency Partners; and five-year chairman of The Twelve Bands of Christmas, a non-profit aiding Augusta’s pediatric cancer patients and their families.

Also serving on the association’s Executive Committee through June 2021 are President-Elect Ashley Hines Ellis of BBWH Insurors, Vice President Mike Iverson of M. D. Iverson Group, Secretary/Treasurer Wendi Hamby Washowich, AAI of Hamby & Aloisio, and Immediate Past President Michael Mellars, AAI of Pritchard & Jerden, Inc. Stark Harbour of Assured Partners, will continue his role on the executive committee as National director, and appointment on the board of directors for the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America.

IIAG is the advocate for Trusted Choice Independent Insurance Agents in the state of Georgia, representing over 500 member agencies.
