I like this program. Texas should have developed a similar program after hurricane Ike when entire neighborhoods were washed away in the city of Crystal Beach. The structures that didn’t get washed away had already been hardened against wind and storm surges. Instead, Texas allowed people to build back with unimproved building codes which will allow a repeat of Ike. .

I mean really this should be something available to all states that are touched by hurricanes at all. Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, all should adopt something to help clients who buy homes in coastal areas protect their homes because for uknown reasons folks are not willing to do it themselves for the most part. Another option would be to mandate in areas where hurricanes have historically caused damage that builders build with materials that resist being destroyed in high winds. If Mexico Beach, FL teaches us anything it is that this MUST be an area that is protected from that kind of catastrophe from happening ever again. How many citizens must die before we make a change to and enforce building codes?
