Investigators with the California Department of Insurance (CDI) Criminal Investigations Branch’s Fraud Division served a search warrant at a Sacramento man’s residence and arrested him on three felony counts of insurance fraud and one count of filing a false police report.
Ralph Kindred, 39, was arrested without incident at 975 Cobble Shores Drive, Sacramento, and was booked into the Sacramento County Jail. Bail was set for $5,000. If convicted, Kindred could face up to five years in state prison and/or a maximum fine of $50,000.
According to investigators, Kindred allegedly reported a burglary to the Sacramento Police Department on Oct. 30, 2000. Kindred allegedly then made a claim for stolen items to State Farm Insurance Company. State Farm paid Kindred $31,800.54 for costs associated with the burglary.
After the claim was paid, Kindred’s ex-wife and ex-girlfriend came forward independently and said the burglary was staged and items had not been stolen. Kindred’s ex-wife admitted causing damage to the home during a domestic dispute. Kindred allegedly later used that damage as the basis for the burglary claim.
