Calif. Man Surrenders on Fraud Charges

February 5, 2002

Michael Vannostran, 24, of San Clemente, surrendered after an arrest warrant was filed by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office charging him with two counts of insurance fraud. Vannostran surrendered at the Department H2 Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach and posted $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 13.

Vannostran allegedly submitted receipts to his insurance carrier, the Interinsurance Exchange of the Automobile Club of Southern California, on two separate occasions in April of 2001 for car rental services that he allegedly did not receive after his own vehicle was damaged and inoperable following a collision.

At the time, Vannostran was employed as an assistant manager by Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Lake Forest. Vannostran allegedly utilized Enterprise Rent-A-Car invoices to obtain an insurance payment from the Automobile Club for a total of $1,670. Irregularities in the claim were noted by adjusters at the Automobile Club, payment was withdrawn, and the California Department of Insurance Fraud Division was notified.
