Garamendi Campaign Hits Fundraising Goal

Former Insurance Commissioner and Insurance Commissioner candidate John Garamendi announced that has more than $1.3 million available to spend in the final six weeks before the November election, and is on target to spend more than $2 million during the general election. In the quarterly report that Garamendi will file with the Secretary of State on Monday, Garamendi has shows more than $1,311,000 in cash as of Sept. 30, 2002, according to Finance director Pam Neifert.

“I am grateful for the support of so many contributors, and from of business, labor and consumer groups from around the state,” said Garamendi. “With their help, we will be able to get out our message about our plans to address the problems facing businesses and individuals in health insurance, workers compensation, and homeowners insurance.”

In addition to cash on hand, Garamendi has already spent substantial sums on major advertising expenses for the November election. Motorists in Los Angeles and the Bay Area have already reported seeing Garamendi’s billboards in high traffic areas.

Garamendi’s announcement comes on the heels of a Los Angeles Times poll that shows Former Commissioner Garamendi opening up a commanding 22 point lead over his Republican opponent.

Garamendi, who spent just over $1 million in the primary, won the Democratic nomination by 200,000 votes, despite being heavily outspent by two opponents. For the general election, Garamendi’s fundraising has outpaced the efforts of his closest competitor.
