I guess it remains human nature for people to believe that the “unthinkable” will not happen to them. But, this type of thinking is definitely not helpful, especially when trying to settle a claim. Being underinsured is a very serious problem plaguing people throughout the US, but those in fire danger areas should be even more vigilant than most to ensure their policies are adequate. One of the best steps someone can take is to inventory their home’s contents, valuate everything, and then make sure his insurance policy reflects that reality. Too many people with homes destroyed by the last wildfires discovered all too late that they couldn’t even rebuild their homes, much less replace their contents, with the insufficient insurance they had. For help with this, I encourage agents to have their clients visit http://www.assetverification.com. With Asset Verification’s inventory and appraisal services, agents can increase the amount of insurance sold and decrease their E&O exposure while clients can rest easy knowing their assets are protected.

IN A RELATED SURVEY, RESIDENTS IN SOUTH FLORIDA FEEL THAT ALTHOUGH THEY RECOGNIZE THAT THEIR HOME IS IN AN AREA PRONE TO DEVASTATING TROPICAL STORMS AND HURRICANES CAPABLE OF WIPING OUT ENTIRE COMMUNITIES, THEIR OWN HOUSE IS COMPLETELY IMMUNE TO THE STORMS AND THEREFORE SHOULD QUALIFY FOR THE ABSOLUTELY LOWEST INSURANCE RATES AVAILABLE TO COMPARABLE HOUSES IN STATES LIKE REMOTE MONTANA. HOWEVER, ON THE OUTSIDE CHANCE THAT WIND SHOULD HIT THEIR DWELLING, THEIR HOUSE SHOULD BE INSPECTED AND REPAIRED/REPLACED IMMEDIATELY.

We Californians live in a state prone to earthquke, but statistics show 80 % of the homeowners don’t carry Earthquake insurance, so why would anyone be surprised that most people living in or adjacent to a wildfire area think a fire is likely happen, but not to them?
