Nevada Insurance Comissioner Receives “Woman of Distinction” Award

The Southern Nevada Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) honored the state’s Commissioner of Insurance Alice A. Molasky-Arman with a “Woman of Distinction” award at its 8th Annual Awards ceremony held in Las Vegas.

This year, 14 organizations were chosen to nominate an honoree in their field who is considered to be “the best of the best.” The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) of Southern Nevada unanimously selected Molasky-Arman as the insurance/financial services recipient. President Elect Patricia Gidday cited Molasky-Arman for having served longer than any insurance commissioner in Nevada and being the longest tenured female commissioner in the country.

Gidday said, “Nevada is fortunate to have a person who possesses such dedication to insurance regulation. Alice is a great credit to the State and has consistently demonstrated her wisdom and ability to shape policy that benefits the public rather than particular interests.”
Molasky-Arman said she was humbled and honored to be selected as one of the 14 recipients of the Women of Distinction Award Honorees.

Molasky-Arman was appointed commissioner of insurance on January 6, 1995. When she became commissioner in 1995, she capped a long career, which began as an insurance examiner in 1976. In 1988, she took a leave of absence to pursue a law degree. After she obtained her degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law, she returned to the Division of Insurance, this time as insurance counsel and hearing officer.

The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) is a national nonprofit organization representing the interests of more than 70,000 insurance and financial advisors nationwide, through its federation of more than 900 state and local associations. Founded in 1890, NAIFA is the nation’s largest financial services membership association.

The National Association of Women Business Owners was established in 1974 in Washington, D.C. It encompasses 80 chapters nationwide representing more than 8,000 women.
