Beecher Carlson Expands Risk Services/Captive Operations in Denver

Beecher Carlson, an insurance brokerage and risk management consulting firm, has expanded its risk services/captive operations with the appointment of Richard (Dick) Huntington as senior vice President and Carol Riggs as vice president. Huntington will focus on the development and management of captive insurance companies, public agency pooling arrangements and other alternative risk techniques. Riggs will be responsible for providing risk services consulting for current and perspective clients with a specialized focus in public entity and school district pools. Both will operate from Beecher Carlson’s Denver office.

Huntington’s career spans more than 35 years in the insurance and risk management industry with specialized focus in alternative risk techniques, such as trust funds for self-insurance programs, single parent captives, group captives, risk retention groups and public agency pooling arrangements. His activities in this field have included feasibility studies, captive formation, operational analyses of captive operations and active participation in the deliberations of captive boards and committees.

Prior to joining Beecher Carlson, Huntington served as senior vice president, southwest healthcare practice leader for Palmer & Cay. Prior to Palmer & Cay, he served as relationship manager with Aon Risk Services where he was responsible for insurance brokerage and risk management consulting services to large healthcare accounts. He has also served as senior consultant with Advanced Risk Management Techniques, a subsidiary of Aon and senior vice president with the MMI Companies Inc., a liability insurance company specializing in the healthcare industry.

Riggs has more than 16 years experience in the insurance and risk management industry with a specialization in claims management. Her claims management expertise spans workers compensation, general liability, construction defect, property claims and litigation supervision.

Prior to joining Beecher Carlson, Riggs served as a claims manager for State Farm Insurance Companies where she was responsible for managing a large staff of claims professionals specializing in workers compensation, general liability and property. She also developed detailed coverage analyses on complex coverage issues, implemented audits on workers compensation and general liability claims and coordinated catastrophe operations in several states.
