California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund’s Santa Rosa District Office employees have raised nearly $50,000 during the past decade for various charities including $3,000 at the recent 25th annual “Human Race.” State Fund’s donations helped the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County, which coordinated the annual event last month, bring in a record $1.1 million for over 500 nonprofit organizations in Sonoma County.
State Fund’s Santa Rosa District Office employees have participated in the Human Race for more than a decade and the office has raised nearly $50,000 to a range of local non-profits.
Funds donated by employees in this year’s event were earmarked for Sutter VNA/Hospice, Canine Companions, the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society, Wine Country Greyhound Adoption and Women’s Recovery Services. In addition to participating in the race, employees volunteered by assisting in registration and tee-shirt distribution, directing traffic and tabulating results for the event.
Last year, employees contributed approximately $5,300 to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. The office is also committed in keeping local blood banks well stocked. Since 2001 the Santa Rosa District Office has donated more than 500 units of blood to the Blood Bank of the Redwoods. Employees also volunteer at area food banks, parks as well as helping the homeless and mentoring at-risk youth.
The Santa Rosa District Office, which serves more than 10,000 policyholders, houses a formal “Community Services Committee” composed of seven employees who meet monthly to identify and respond to community needs.
