Perhaps they should look into UC Davis Medical for abuses to those who ARE insured. Aggressive is an understatement when going after your deductible.

Overcharging uninsured\’s is a standard of practice in the medical industry.

Of course, if you are of certain ethnic group here illegally it\’s no biggie because many state programs pay the freight.

The rest of us pay for this. Here\’s my experience.

As a younger person in my 20\’s barely making it financially while attending college and working 2 part-time jobs, I had the misfortune to incur blood poisening. Of course, I was uninsured.
Following an ER room local debridement of my infected index finger I was hospitalized 4 days on IV antibiotic\’s. Total cost :$14,000. Review of my bill showed charges:
    – $4.35 for each generic 500 mg. acetamenaphin tablet( For the price of one pill I could have bought a whole bottle of Tylenol).
-$22 for each \”daily oral care kit\” ( a toothbrush, plastic cup and shortie toothpaste tube).
    – $650 for a nurse anesthetist to adminsiter 2 pain shots into my wrist.
    – $2,000 for the attending doctor and ER room doctor charges for reviewing my daily lab test results performed by an outside lab service . Of course the hospital charged an additional fee (\”review and charting\”) for each test.I later discovered each doc had a junior financial position in the lab. Nice referral work if you can get it.
    – $750 daily for a private/semi private room

It took me 4 1/2 years to pay the bill off. Good thing I paid it all too. Wouldn\’t want a black credit mark for not paying such fair charges.

The whole industry should be investigated for overbilling.

hey uninsuredbackwhen I was seen in Oct 2006 after I was hit by a hit and run driver and just for the ER and 4 hours of \”care\” Catholic HealthCare West billed me over $46,000.00. Your bills was spit in my bill bucket. Total with the ER, the doctor,Xrays and ambulance my total is $51,000.00. The 23 year old who hit was only covered for $15,000.00. All that I get is harrassing call the CHCW.
