John Green, Farmers Insurance Group’s regional vice president of auto product management and chief auto actuary, died Thursday, Feb. 1, of injuries due to an auto accident.
A respected leader in the industry and at Farmers, Green was responsible for creating in 2005 a popular California auto insurance program. He also was a member of California’s Assigned Risk Plan Board of Directors.
Green was recruited to work as an actuarial student for Farmers in June 1992. Within a year, he was promoted to analyst and senior analyst. Then he was promoted to actuarial assistant, then assistant actuary in 1994 and 1995. He was awarded a fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society in 1998. After three more promotions in the following six years, he was named to his current position in June 2006.
Green was a valued participant in many religious groups, first at the Magnolia Center Church of Christ and more recently at Grace Baptist Church of Santa Clarita, Calif. He was a member of the TPC Golf Club in Valencia., Calif., and a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Born in Okinawa, Japan, to a military family on Sept. 28 1962, Green lived abroad for many years until settling in Riverside, Calif. He graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1980 and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1985 and his Masters in 1990 from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Green is survived by his wife, Jeannette, his daughters Chrystin and Nicole, his parents Gene and Peggy Green, and his brother and lifelong best friend, Steve Green.
