How can I get in contact with the lawyer for these students? I was in this school in Seattle in 1996. The worst school ever and by the time you find out, it’s too damn late. All your money signed away and the government helped the scum.

I went to this school in Tacoma for only a month in October of 1991 and they took my money and obsconded with it and then wouldn’t give me a certificate after they made me default on the federal loan. How do you get in touch with these people?

The instructor turnover was swift when I attended that school. (5 instructors in one 3 month class) Yes, I went all the way thru – 18 months! By the time I figured out how bad it was, it was too late to get any money back. My training isn’t worth more than a beginner’s book at Powell’s book store. I bought many used books after graduation just to get the jobs I wanted. It cost me $20,000 for this life lesson. What a waste of time, money, and effort! I’m embarrassed to type BCTI on my resume, but it’s the only technical training I have. I’m forced to have their name on my resume to get my jobs. I’ve had employers comment (unofficially, of course) that they can’t hire me because they’re unable verify my education. Thank you very much BCTI, you did a fine job for yourself!

I was talked into by a friend and recruiter to attend this school. My friend received pal grants and only had pay half back. So I went into BCTI and talk a financial representive and another person about the school. They wouldn’t take no for an answer. So now 8 years later and 10,000 in debt all their false promises about the education and how I would be able to get a better job than fast food were untrue. I sent out over 25 resumes a week and everyone was a rejection saying not enough experience. I am glad someone is doing something about it so other people won’t get suckered into this place. It won’t help them at all. Does anyone know how to get a hold of the lawyers I would like to know what happened. I attended the school in everett, WA

I was not notified of this lawsuit either. Yes I was a single mother, low income and had to repay thousands of dollars of student loans.

I also attended this ‘school’ and found its training remedial, at best. Everything the school taught was basics that a student could recieve in high school.
The school even attempted to talk me into doing their advanced course but it was not even worth it.
When I attempted to exit the course, I was told it was a “locked” loan and I would be forced to pay it back.

I tried to exit too and they pulled that same line of persuasion with me. They literally begged for me to stay. I only attend the first two courses and I’m in debt over $10,000. These people should have been monitored by some educational government organization all a long.

The reason no one was notified was that all records were destroyed by BCTI upon hearing of the lawsuit.

I should have been able to get in on this lawsuit but was unaware until not too long ago when I was told about it. I feel that all students should have been notified. Going to bcti was worst decision of my life and I’m still paying for it after 10 years. Infact I still owe the same amount now that I owed 10 years ago because the interest keeps accumulating. Is there any hope for us students that didn’t know.

Yes, youre basically out of luck since none were able to be contacted due to the dirty tricks of the BCTI company.
I believe we are all in agreement that this was a bad mistake to have gone through.

no one was notified because BCTI destoyed the documents comment is bull after seven years i was able to get my transcript, so if the info is there so are the names of the students who attended during the time period of the lawsuit (mine being one of them). There are so many who defend the institution makes you wonder how many had to(as in no choice in the matter) go to bcti.

WOW, glad to see I’m not the only one who was shafted by this B.S. excuse of a school! I attended BCTI in Seattle from 1998-1999 prior to joining the military! I now live in Arizona, and I’m STILL being hounded by pesky debt collectors 24/7!

    What I want to know is how in the world they can say that I’m over $12,000 in debt when I had applied for a PELL GRANT… which is a form of financial aid that you don’t have to pay back, yet I never even got one single penny out of it, and now I supposedly owe them the money back?? :-{

The head honchos @ BCTI claimed that they supplied me with a “special” kind of Pell grant which was money paid towards books… ones that I never even recieved for my courses! The thing I regret was me being young & gullible enough to believe them at the time!

I would really like to talk to a lawyer regarding this situation, cause I feel that I’m just one of the many former BCTI students who got ripped off by these con-artists and buried up to their neck in debt by a school that is now defunct (no surprise there!)

I did not attend this school but I see a parrallel in a controversy in the Minnesota University I enrolled in back in May 2009. I was told I could take classes excerated and that I would have access to loans amounts. I had made it clear to admissions and advising I to meet my goals and limits on aid where I had transferred in 133 credits and that I had no income or money for college and that the plan required full aid by grants and loans. Financial aid then after the 14 day periods top cancell loans nullified the right to take excess loads, refused to make corrections to error in add on budgts for travel to college, refused to permit acces to loans for all text books, and refused to permit loans to pay for required Praxis tests. Instead financial aid office began to solicit complaints to file in its colleg of education even before I had filed necessary paperwork for the ed program. The financil aid officer even filed statements that in my mental state I should nopt be placed to work in any school. Some of the solicted complaints were from admissions and advising staff who claimed that I did not dress appropriately, that I stunk, and made comments also that I should be allowed to work in a school. One stated they they could not beleive that I was subbing at a school. I always take a bath every day. No one ever complianed about me at the school and wanted me to come back as a para. However the Education director based on the dipositions started by financial aid claimed he would reccomend against licensure and any future jobs. So who would continue to pay the college or honor these loans based on bad faith acts. So does anyone know a laywer who would be interested in a pro-bono case in which substatiantal evidence and rebuttal evidence has been gathered. PS Northern Minnesota. I have been using FOIA requests to gather info. I need advice about cancellation of federal loans and other loans based on bad faith conduct, misrepresentations, and or fraud. I recorded some of the threats and mistreatment as a particpant to the conversations. Right now it appears my attempts to resolve the matter are a fising expedition by the University. What a mess!

I was divorced after 20 years of marrage I had been a stay at home mom with no computer knowledge and very little skills in the workplace. As a single parent with very little income I heard about BCTI through a friend and made an appointment I was told that if I inrolled in the School it would change my life and when I graduated they would place me in a much higher paying job then what I presently had.I went through the 7 1/2 months of training and toward the end of the training gave notice at my present employer expecting this great job, they did get me an interview with a decorating company in Seattle I went for the interview and found out it payed less then what I was making. I returned to the School several times asking if they had anything else, the receptionest told me it would take a little longer because of my age. It has been a struggle through the years more so then before I started the school because I never got anything they promised and I am also indebt for over 8 thousand dollars to the Direct School Loan. Do you know how I can get in contact with a lawyer about this School.

I’m a working mother of 2, I attended BCTI in 2003 when I was pregnant with my youngest child. I worked full time, while going to school 5hrs a day to better my family, and BCTI has gotten me nowhere, I still work in Fast Food, i still make a little over min wage. BCTI got me for $11,000, the last 4 years tax returns, this was money i worked hard for day and night at a fast food restaurant. I just read this article and was disturbed to find this:
Former students who did not join the lawsuit cannot collect on the settlement.

    http://www.thenewstribune.com/news/education/story/246201.html

BCTI destroyed all their records so we were never informed of any pending lawsuits, if i would’ve known i would’ve joined in the lawsuit. When I saw the article online in the Tacoma Tribune in December of 2007, I called and left all my info with PCVK Law Firm (Heather) and never heard anything back. If anyone knows how i can reclaim some of my hard earned money please let me know. crystelmarie@hotmail.com

Reading some of the comments from other websites on the matter reveal that the students who did not get involved in the beginning are to late to recieve a compinsation from the lawsuit. On one website it said that only 46 student were actually notified of the lawsuit which i never recieved anything in the mail about it. All i want is the 10,000 dollars back which the government has been taking out of my tax returns for the last 5 years.

I was a student of BCTI of Lacey, WA in 1994. I kept refusing to pay on the loan until I got a good paying job based on the education I received.

I never did get that job. Prospective employers laughed at my BCTI certificate.

But even now, the Department of Education says I still have to pay. With interest and fees, the amount I owe has gone up to over $10,000.

I have repaid some of the loan and am currently on a payment schedule. But now I’d really like the loan to be wiped off the books like BCTI has been.

Anyone with any information on how I can get this old loan taken care of, please email me, wprang@hotmail.com

The BCTI litigation was started in March, 2005 – before the school
closed. Within days, the school closed down completely on all campuses.
We continued with our litigation and the Court certified the matter as a
class action. The original class action notice was posted for review.
In June, 2007 a proposed settlement was reached and the Order was
entered by the Court. The Judge ordered that the settlement be
advertised in several newspapers – this was done. The Notice of
settlement was also posted on our web page. The Notice provided any
Washington BCTI student would have a deadline date of 10/9/07 to file a
proof of claim form with supporting documentation of your attendance at
BCTI. Although many people were filing their claim forms themselves,
we had 3-separate group meetings at our Tacoma office where we met with
nearly 1300 BCTI students and even helped them complete the claim forms.
Unfortunately, if you did not file a claim, you are barred from pursuing
an action against BCTI for the same reasons named in the class action
lawsuit. This matter pertains to Washington students only. If you are
a student who attended school in Oregon at BCTI, that litigation is
still pending. Please contact us directly if you are an Oregon student.
I am attaching to this email some documents that show the deadline dates
and the advertisement that was placed in the paper to provide notice to
any BCTI student. I should mention that the BCTI litigation was on
several news channels and Dave Wickert of the Tacoma News Tribune ran a
front page article about BCTI and its owners 3 separate days. I also
know that the settlement hit the wire and some class members called us
about the litigation from the East Coast.

I hope this answers your questions. We are truly sorry if you did not
file a claim by the deadline. The funds from the settlement were
disbursed to students who had filed valid claims that were approved by
    the Court in December, 2007.

We will be happy to send you this information and some loan discharge
application information forms that may assist you with your loan
indebtedness that you may still be experiencing. There is no final
finding that BCTI committed “fraud” — the case was settled before the
trial was done. The documents we are sending do provide some
information that would have supported those claims.

I wish you success. If I can answer any questions, please do not
    hesitate to email me back.

This is such b.s. I have never even heard of such a lawsuit until now! I had never received any help from them and everything we learned was pretty much obsolete! Every student should have automatically been included in this lawsuit! I hear only a small amount of students were informed since BCTI destroyed all the student files. So what needs to be done now? I shoul not have to pay this b.s. Loan back!

For what it’s worth, this is the same story for me. They were predatory, especially to teenagers. I ended up with a couple of temporary positions I found myself that didn’t have anything to do with the BCTI classes. The placement person BCTI sent me to told me I was kidding myself if I thought I’d ever get a job making more than $7 an hour, i.e. McDonald’s I guess. Discouraging to say the least. So I had to venture out on my own to find an unrelated job. I’m faced with paying back $10K not including interest for loans for the worthless school.

*I also agree that they should have notified everyone.* We don’t all have time to sit around watching the news and reading newspapers for ads about something we have no clue is happening.

Yes, ALL students should have been automatically included! This is outrageous. I’m sorry, but putting an ad in the paper to notify everyone? What about people who didn’t live there? I left Washington right after I attended BCTI and ended up in England. How in the world was I supposed to know about this, if they didn’t use my contact details such as email, and my parents address back home, to actually notify me?? I think it’s additionally criminal that more were not notified. I am a struggling single mother whose life has been ruined by all this. I’d go so far as to say the students involved in the lawsuit intentionally did not make it known to everyone else as then the money awarded would have to be divided up into smaller amounts. I think some bastards were just plain greedy and selfish here! I think we should start a new lawsuit and include the fact we were intentionally left out! Who’s in with me?? I want MY share of the money back from these traitorous jerks!

I am also a victim of BCTI in 1999, I realized that BCTI is not accredited towards colleges! I applied for student loan which I had to pay through garnishing my wages. I was not aware of any of the lawsuit and I am totally in for a new lawsuit!!

I also wasn’t informed about this lawsuit. And am unemployable for office type jobs because I don’t have an AA, and am currently having my taxes offset to pay this debt. So frustrated! Not to mention I didn’t even have a highschool diploma OR GED when they had me take out the loans.

Wow! I attended the Lacey school from june 2002 thru feb 2003 and never received placement assistance. I thought I was getting a solid career transition from the Army. I felt and have always felt taken advantage of from this school. I currently owe 20,562.70 as of
June 13,2010 as a direct result of BCTI. I also had to sell most of my family belongings and move back to my hometown of Columbia, SC.

How can I find out what my rights are towards this suit. I know that in Oregon, their suit set funds aside to go towards students coming forward after the fact. I started to complain about the school before I even graduated. In the start of the fifth mod they asked me to leave the school and not come back. That was only after one recruiter asked me in the haul way with a potential recruit what I thought of the school and I told her if she wanted me to lie or tell the truth. We all laughed and she asked me the same question and I gave her the same answer. She did not like that very much. A few days later I was on my way out the door. Then they said I graduated anyway because I never lost any time up to that point. I made every single day even in the snow storms and ice outs I made it to class. Only to be kicked out for no reason what so ever. They just said leave I broke a rule of some kind on the list and that was it I was out.
At least they save me the time I would have wasted going to class the rest of that time. I just climbed back into a truck and back to my old job

Since a lawsuit isnt an option any longer and so many people are still paying on loans we shouldnt be i suggest another avenue. I read a comment where someone mentioned they wrote a letter to state politions, governer etc re the matter & got little response. Based on how many angry comments spread accross various sites theres a lot of people who were screwed. When it comes to any solution there is always a strength in numbers. I plan to write anyone i can think of specifically governer gregoire i ask everyone else who has an opinion to also write and ask tha our loans be discharged. She made rules so this couldnt happen to people in the future. Now its time we speak up and demand someone look out for those of us who are suffering because those laws werent passed sooner.

If I can answer any questions, please do not
    hesitate to email me back

I attendened BCTI in Seattle, Wa., (in the early 1990’s). I did not graduate, but I also am in default in a student loan which is over 10,000 dollars. Being that it is 2015 would I have any recourse? I do agree with all that the other students are saying. Poor instructors and no pay off in the job market. I went back to being a restaurant manager. That student loan haunts me every where I go. Thank You, Terry Rowe

I only found out how my “credits” were not worth anything when I was applying for a govt job!!!I tried contacting the Dept of Education and I even sent them a copy of the article and claims and asked if I could have the debt removed and they denied it and said I have to pay it all back. Needless to say I still. end up going back to my local College to get degree.

I went to BCTI in January of 2000. Vancouver, WA school. Went to school and also held down a job during the 7-1/2 months. In August was my last month where you fill out resumes and send them out. The instructors give you all the tools to find the jobs. I found a job right away and I am still at that same job. I feel that BCTI was the best thing for me at that time. The instructors were great. I graduated at the top of the class.
Thank you, BCTI for giving me the opportunity to learn and thank you instructors for your knowledge.

I moved to Nevada in 1999. I went to the Tukawila,Wash.. BCTI..and yes, it was a joke..instructors leaving and no books..I didn’t find out the degree wasn’t on my transcript until I applied for a job with the school district in 2007. I was told by the Department of Education that over 6,000 students were involved in this scam and didn’t receive their degrees!I payed my student loan over $10,000, No degree and no proof I went to the school…I was told “All paper work was kept by the school to send into the Department of Education”..(that there was a problem with the diploma’s and it would be sent in the mail) We did have a graduation..( Little as it was)..But all in all… there are records somewhere of all students who attended and no one was notified of these legal proceedings? My email address has never changed over the years..Credit Bureau’s have addresses & email addresses. Tax returns have the same information. There are programs that can pull personal information with current addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. All you need are the names…This case should be opened again and made an example to all colleges and university’s. Students weren’t the only ones hurt, it effected their children and family’s..let’s not minimize the impact of this injustice…

I attended BCTI at the Tukwila, WA location in 1989. The only reason why I found out about this lawsuit is because I tried to contact the school for a copy of my certificate of graduation and found out that it’s closed down. I also was never notified of any lawsuit or school close sure. I did pay my loan, even if it took me forever, but wasn’t easy. There should be something that we can do about it. Does anyone have any information about contacting attorneys to pursue this situation?

I went to the Fife/Tacoma location and graduated in 1999. I never got any job search assistance, or help in any way to find a placement after the “graduation” fiasco. It was horrible! When I was there I was correcting the instructors themselves on what they were “teaching” us.

I was never notified of the school (and I use that term loosely) closing, or any lawsuit!

If anyone knows how to get any money back from this, or stop the collection calls and remove this joke from my credit history I would be appreciative!

Yes, I’m actually angry that no one notified me of this when it was taking place. I was a student back in 1998. I ended up paying huge interest fees to the government, and they intercepted my tax return. That and other reasons over the years compounded and cost me the tune of around 100 thousand dollars, and I’m a poor single mother as a result of all of this ruining mine and all of my families life. I want to know how they went about contacting former students about the lawsuit when it was taking place, and why some were not included in that, even though they should have had all our details. I never received an email, or a letter or phone call. Is there anything that anyone can do now about it?

    Hi,

Does anyone remember the name of the ‘private’ financing company BCTI used to get funding when they could not get the whole amount from the Federal government on your/our behalf?

We can also go after the private lender(s) for reimbursement of the privatized portion of the loan through the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. I am pursuing this because I too was defrauded.

You can file a claim with the department of education for federal funded portions here:

I am just finding out all of this information. I have been paying on my loans since 1997 off and on. At times I had my tax return taken, and I was a young single mom and deferred my loan a lot. I now have been paying consistently for years $41 a month but only $20 goes to my loan amount. I have probably paid my debt in full but because of the high interest and they years I didn’t pay I still owe over $8,000. I feel like I will be paying this off forever. I hope there is something I can do. Im trying to search through all of these comments. I went to the Lacey Branch in the Spring of 1997.

A lot of us quit because the night teacher just stopped showing up but it was to late to get reimbursed from the school. And first semester PP class was taught by a student while the teacher sat there watching because he knew very little about the subject.

I am now back in College and guess what, some of the Federal Money that BCTI was given on my behalf (which I did’t fully understand at the time) will be taken from my lifetime award. So the last 3 months of my BA degree will have to come out of pocket because this school took funds illegally!

Hello does anyone know who I can talk to about this lawsuit. My husband went to this school in 1995/1996 and now he is stuck with a student loan with thousands dollars of interest. He had no idea there was a law suit against this school. Even though he graduated from this school, his diploma isn’t worth anything.

Left a comment about this a few years ago and nothing will be done now, I’m sure. There are still a lot of us paying on student loans from this scam school. They recruited me in 1995 at the welfare office when I was 19 with a baby and two more on the way. Never obtained any employment with the certificate and one of the employees at the temp agency they recommended me to told me that I was fooling myself if I thought I was going to make more than $7 an hour, even with the certificate. It’s ridiculous to pay what is now about $12K for a predatory school that was closed so long ago due to fraudulent practices. There is no way anyone involved in this law suit did due diligence in notifying all of us. I only found out years after it was too late to join. US Dept of Education should have never accredited BCTI.

I was named on the original class action law suit and never received a dollar. These law firms are just as predatory as the school itself. They have received tens of millions of dollars and used my name to get it. I still owe the loans and interest to the Department of Education. And, I didn’t receive a dollar from the law suit.

Is it too late for those of us who are just finding out about this fraudulent activity? I owe thousands of dollars for my schooling at BCTI. How if this school was discredited, how are there still those of us who owe for this schooling? Also, my inability to pay for this schooling has actually prohibited me from attending any credited colleges due to unpaid tuition. Can Any one please let me know if there is anything at all that I can do about this as my life continues to suffer due to this bogus accredited school. Thank you in advance for anyone who has any information in regards to this matter.

My husband was part of the class action lawsuit and after the lawyers took their share, my husband received a check for his “share” which was $59.
