Why not just raise it to $100 an hour? That way everyone can be rich. Isn’t that what laws are for-to create a perfect world?

Why, those stingy politicians could make it $200 an hour if they really had any compassion for the poooooor.

Instead of handing our an occasional fish, maybe the goverment should try teaching people to fish. That way they could feed themselves instead of being dependent on the government to keep providing cost of living adjustments to a poverty level that will never go away.

The government has no business teaching anyone how to fish. The best motivators known to man are cold, hunger, and nakedness. Let anyone of these kick in and the local fish population will be endangered soon enough.

I am sure you and your buddy, Faust, would prefer to a return to slavery or indentured servants.

au contrare Monsieur Faust. While I agree with you in principle, none of the natural motivators you mention have worked with a segment of our population. People need to learn it’s their responsibility to earn their keep. Government has a responsibility to avoid burdening productive members of society by paying artificially inflated costs for goods and services. Throwing more money at a poverty level only sustains it.

Oooh, you’re soooo enlightened. Sorry, but prefer freedom to welfare. that hardly makes us favor slavery. You favor slavery – to the government, either on the part of people who are dependent on it for their sustenance or because they spend five months a year working just to pay their tax bill. Reeetard.

Faustie……….you disappoint (but don’t surprise) me by reverting to moronic name calling when someone challenges your position. Shame on you. I don’t recall anyone appointing you to judge or criticize peoples comments. Get some class please.

Are you the hall monitor or what? Melissa said that I want people to be slaves because I’m opposed to the govt telling private businesses how much to pay their burger flippers and floor sweepers. Why not rag on her?

You all missed the fact that the reason the minimum wage is adjusted every year is because the people of Washington voted on a ballot initiative and it passed. The State legislature did not pass it themselves, the decision was left to the voters.

Politicians/government are of the highest moral standards and their motives/actions should never be questioned. Even though you & I don’t have the right to stick a gun in someone’s face and demand money, government does-but it’s all for the “common good” of course. Now, where does government get this right to stick guns in people’s faces for money? From the “people” of course. But wait, the “people” are you & I; we most certainly don’t have that right. So, if we don’t have something, how can we give it to government? Well, that’s what the state propaganda machine is for of course-to convince you that someone-that is, you & I-who doesn’t have something in the first place is able to give that something that we don’t have to someone else. See what wonderful magic that is? Now go home and watch TV. And repeat to yourself-“without government, all of society would crumble within ten seconds. The state is God and I shall not question its existence.”

So, you are an anarchist or a Loosertarian? Just governance derives its power from the consent of the governed. In order for government to function at levels even you would agree with, it must be funded.

The flaw in your premises is that individuals don’t have the power to pay people to do things for us, which of course, we do. I can pay people to cut my grass. I can pay people to hunt down my debtors, or theives that have stolen my property. Rather than every man for himself however, human societies have always pooled resources to execute certain tasks that are best provided for in common than ad hoc.

Obviously, these delegated powers can be exploited and abused, which is why we have laws to govern the behavior of our government employees. It is a logical fallacy to cite instances of abuse in order to argue against the need for or legitimacy of the thing being abused.

So, commit all that to memory, change your mind, and be a better person going forward.
