Insurance Information Network of California Offers Residents Fire Toolkit

June 23, 2008

The Insurance Information Network of California is offering residents an interactive toolkit to help them prepare, survive and recover from future fires. According to IINC, the electronic toolkit is being released one year after the Angora wildfire destroyed hundreds of California homes, and should help residents better understand insurance, organize a home inventory, prepare a home evacuation plan and create defensible space around their homes.

“Last year’s Angora fire was a costly reminder of the devastation that can occur in the Tahoe Basin,” said IINC Executive Director Candysse Miller. “We’re giving residents a free resource to help them prepare their homes as well as their finances against future fires.”

The disc, called “Prepare, Survive, Recover,” contains articles, videos and Web links that can be viewed on both PC and Macintosh computers. It also includes free home inventory software called “Know Your Stuff.” The software walks homeowners through the home inventory process. Once complete, an inventory not only helps homeowners buy the right amount of insurance, but also serves as a recovery tool in the event of a loss.

IINC will distribute the “Prepare, Survive, Recover” packets at an Angora Benefit Concert to be held on June 24, 2008, in South Lake Tahoe.

IINC is non-profit, non-lobbying insurance communications association dedicated to helping the public understand insurance and risk management issues. For more information, visit www.iinc.org.
