California Insurance Department, Delegata Win Technology Award

May 14, 2009

The California Department of Insurance and Delegata, a technology consulting firm, have been named recipients of the 2009 Best Solutions Award at the Government Technology Conference. CDI partnered with Delegata to design, develop and implement the Online Assistance System for Insurer Submittals (OASIS), an online web-based business transaction and payment portal.

“As head of the largest consumer protection agency in the state, I am committed to streamlining government and making the day-to-day processes more efficient,” said Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner. “I’m proud of the Department of Insurance team that worked tirelessly to infuse innovation into the everyday aspects of the Department. This is a wonderful example how we can use existing resources to better serve the people of California and just one of the methods used by CDI earlier this year when we voluntarily cut our own budget by 10 percent.”

CDI worked with Delegata to develop and implement OASIS, which enables insurers to submit web-based applications and credit card payments via CDI’s Web site. OASIS allows for in-house online sharing and processing of documents via electronic workflows to multiple program areas throughout CDI. OASIS has eliminated unnecessary paper flow and manual processes, replacing them with quick, efficient review cycles, Poizner said. CDI estimates that through the implementation of OASIS, it will be able to eliminate hundreds of pounds of paper and the need for physical storage space and costs, in addition to eliminating the risk for lost documents.
