Oregon Senate Extends Period of Product Liability

The Oregon Senate has approved a bill that would give Oregonians harmed by defective products more time to take legal action.

Currently, Oregon residents must sue within eight years of when the product was originally purchased.

Senate Bill 284 would extend the window to 10 years.

The bill also adds a provision that gives the injured person the length of time allowed in the state where the product was manufactured. Many states have no limit.

The proposal now goes to the House.
