I understand the fire victims’ frustration. However, it runs harshly against the grain of personal responsibility to second guess the good guys who do their best to protect these residents choosing to live in fire-prone areas. This is merely a new footnote in the whiner playbook.

If people want to spend more of our dwindling budget on a federal probe, investigate and prosecute the criminal who started the fire. By the way, if convicted, burn ’em in the electric chair. Oh, sorry I forgot…that’s politically incorrect because it would be cruel.

The investigation should be why the area was not cleared before the fire. The state uses a non profit company (and how many friends of our politicians are at this non profit?) to dole out contracts for brush clearing. The contract for this clearing was cancelled weeks before the fire started. The state would not be in such financial shape if our $$ wasn’t being handed over to special commissions and non profits to do (at $500 an hour) what a state employee should be doing for a practical salary.
