Colorado Fire in Historic Mall Investigated

The cause of a fire that destroyed a historic mall in Colorado’s Estes Park, at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, is under investigation, according to the Denver Post.

The newspaper is reporting that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has activated it National Response Team and is sending it to Estes Park to begin its investigation tomorrow.

The fire in the Historic Park Theatre Mall was first reported at 6:19 a.m. on Monday. By noon, the local volunteer fire department said it was contained. but the blaze had already gutted the building.

The mall housed 13 businesses. The buidling was built in 1914 and originally was a carriage house and livery. It did not have sprinklers or fire alarms, the Associated Press reported.

Local officials said the fire burned with suspicious intensity.
