“In 2007, the most recent year for which complete figures are available, there were four fatal crashes where a driver was using a cell phone and 195 injury crashes _ which accounted for 1 percent of the total number of traffic deaths and injuries in Oregon that year.”
So we have to control everyone to solve a problem causing 1% of the problem. I wonder what the next fake crisis will be.

I’d guess that the 1990 pages of ObamaCare would fit that description pretty well!

It DOES seem to be the wave of the future, doesn’t it? Let’s control 99% of the population by making law addressing the problems of 1% of the population. FABULOUS!

I can’t tell you how many accidents occur in the LA area and how many idiots can’t drive because they’re talking on their cell phone. Last summer, I was rear-ended by someone who caused a 4-car pile-up. If you think you can talk while holding a phone, you’re fooling yourself. Get a $40 Bluetooth!

I absolutely agree with you. I would hope that intelligent people could police themselves and their limitations and the 1% figure would seem to indicate this is so. As a field sales rep, work is made much more stressful by my inability to answer client inquiries while driving. And, BTW, I’ve spent over $300.00 and have yet to find a Bluetooth earbud that will stay in my ear.

Better than the in-ear types are the car kits like Parrot or Motorola.

I use the Motorola IHF-1000 and it works great. It does voice dailing after you take about 1/2 hour to set up the voice tags. Also, it will mute the stereo system when you receive or make a call.

Where do you get these kits?

Well, you can just Google them to find where to buy them then take them to a car audio shop for the install. Circuit City did mine (before they went bankrupt) for less than $100 for the install.

Thanks a lot for your interesting article. But I had difficulty navigating through your website as I kept getting 502 bad gateway error. Just thought to let you know.
