Please! When is any appointed or elected position not politically motivated. Is it too much to ask to have a field educated, fiscally responsible insurance commissioner and not one that’s owned by special interest groups?

I totally agree that this position should be appointed – it’s become a springboard for higher political aspirations and conflicted issues

For Steve, appointment is likely the only way he will ever achieve his aspiration. And, if the position does become one that is appointed, let’s hope for some better choices. Mike

Appointments do not stop the politicization of an insurance commissioner. I am thinking it would make it worse.

Federal czar appointments have had many problems.

Great! Now if he’d realize that the rest of the Prop 103 provisions have crippled the industry and if he’d actually do something about it…But that would be too much to hope for.

Who knows best about this Industry? I feel that having this very important position in our State & Industry with someone from within the industry allows the Commissioner who knows the Industry to see through a lot of the “BS” a lot faster than a novice. With all due respect to the present Mr. Poisner the previous elected ones tried to use the position as a stepping stone to a higher office or job in or out of California. And when is Harvey taking out his papers to run for this office? Even if he knows nothing about the Industry he so abhors?

If the Insurance Commissioner were not elected, the voters would have exactly “0” voice in whomever the populist elected official appointed. Now think about that, After 8 general elections there would no longer be a need for elections. You think the Insurance industry has issues now, then it would be easier to do business. You would not need E&O insurance, if you made an honest mistake the insurance police would just take you down in a basement somewhere and cancel your license. Of course we would not call it insurance, just protection. Wake up California, I don’t think you can get any closer to comradeship than your electorates have driven you.
