He hasn’t been elected yet but I cannot see him letting this go through since it will look like his doing. Anyone dealing with California WC knows the reforms in 2004 looked good on paper but really aren’t yielding the reductions that the politicians used to justify the kind of rate reductions they forced through. Now it is time to pay the piper and these same politicians will blame everyone else, pass the buck, and deflect the responsibility. Employers will be happy until the situation puts another 15-20 carriers out of business there and the market FORCES a response and carriers pull out of the state. Then they’ll blame the carriers AGAIN for not being responsible.

I had a company rep from one of the major carriers out here yesterday who told me that WC was there bread and butter right now even at the rates being charged. I told them the other shoe would drop in 18-24 months and they basically said no worries since they have other lines of business to prop it up. The whole Work Comp scene is going to look very different in 2 years. Be prepared.
