Insurance Foundation Awards $132,000 in Community Grants

January 28, 2011

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation’s Western Division has awarded 26 community grants totaling $132,000 to nonprofits in the first quarter of 2011.

The Western Division focuses its grant making in four areas: child abuse prevention, education and awareness; disaster preparedness and response; education and literacy; and health and human services. Some of the agencies benefitting from IICF grants this year are, Adopt a Special Kid, Boys Hope Girls Hope, Children’s Nurturing Project, the Child Abuse Prevention Center of Orange County, Kidpower, Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, Shepherds Gate, Poverello House, and Music In Schools Today.

It is the policy of the Foundation to return dollars raised in a region back to that region in the same percentage; thereby bringing benefit to the communities where donors live and work.

“The IICF is proud to support and encourage these stellar community programs,” said Mark El-Tawil, regional CEO, West Region, Humana and 2010-2011 IICF Grants Committee Chair.

“Our industry companies and employees make a real investment in the communities where they live and work, not only through our grant making program, but also through dedicated volunteer support.”

Steve Meyer, regional vice president, NW Region, ACE USA and chairman of the Western Division Board of Directors added, “We are extremely pleased to carry on this tradition of community support by providing grants and volunteers to many worthy nonprofits throughout California.”

Since its inception, the Industry Foundation has awarded more than $16 million in grants, benefitting hundreds of charities throughout the western United States and the New York Tri-state area.

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation, founded in California in 1994, seeks to help communities and enrich lives by combining the collective strengths of the industry to provide grants, volunteer service and leadership. The Foundation is funded and directed by insurance industry professionals.
