Really? What is the lesson here? Buy insurance to protect your assets? How novel.

It is also a good idea to stock up on essentials, such as canned goods, water, toilet paper, etc. I keep at least a 60 day supply for up to four people. I also have put away a few cases of whiskey, which will help me get through with being with Mrs. Compman for those 30-60 days.

People believe that the government will bail them out if an earthquake destroys their home. People do not putchase flood insurance for the same reason. They believe that the FEMA will come up with the money.

I think more Californians would pay for this if the premiums and deductibles (especially!) were not so high. It is only a matter of time before the Big One hits in the Bay Area and sadly that area is completely unprepared for this event. Hopefully insurance companies will come through and pay the claims. Personally, I’m looking forward to canceling our earthquake insurance once our house closes escrow. Moved to TX where at least they make you get Windstorm insurance.
