The city of Meridian has appealed a district court ruling that rejected its claims against a contractor hired to build a new $21 million city hall.
In a statement Monday, the city said an appeal had been filed with the Idaho Supreme Court last week.
Fourth District Court Judge Ronald J. Wilper last month rejected the city’s claims that Petra Inc. breached its contractual obligations and should be liable for flaws discovered in the 104,000-square-foot building.
Wilper also determined the city should bear the costs of Petra’s legal fees, estimated $1.8 million.
Meridian sued Petra in April 2009, saying experts had determined the city suffered damages totaling $8.5 million. The deficiencies alleged by the city included misaligned exterior stonework, leaks in the roof, and a faulty heating and air-conditioning system
