He was a dirt ball who never would have made even close to that in his life. These juries are fools.

I hope the city appeals this all the way to the Supreme Court. That way, at least this lowlife family (who surely knew, yet did nothing about, their son’s disgusting choices to terrorize his neoghborhood, neighbors and police) will have to spend a lot of it on legal fees, and have this drag out for another 5-10 years.

When are we going to pass civil court reforms? It’s sad that they lost a child, no parent should have to go through that. He was a gang member, he resisted arrest, he was not a great human. But then civil courts walk in and hand out excessive awards, insurance carriers foot a chunk of the bill, and then everyone gripes about the expense of insurance. I hope the appeals process works, but there goes more cash down the drain for the local government. such a mystery why local governments are cutting their work forces and services.

Wonder how they came up with that nice round number? Is that the amount of ill gotten booty he would have stolen had he lived? Is that the amount of welfare benefits wh would have recieved had he lived? Is that the amount his family and attorney are willing to share with the bag men for the jury?

No wonder California and all the municipalities are going bankrupt. The scumbags can work the system.

Oh come on now .. you know it wasn’t his fault – he’s a product of his environment, so misunderstood .. the schools failed him, society failed him. What else can we find to blame it on ?? Oh, I’ve got a new concept – maybe himself … you know … personal responsibility !!! SICK TO DEATH OF THIS KIND OF STUFF !!!!

“But the chief medical examiner for Ventura County testified that the force used by officers was a cause of Cornejo’s death.”

Get over yourselves, you self-righteous people. If the cops’ use of force was the cause of his death, that is not right. NOBODY should die in jail as a result of use of force by the people who are protecting and serving the public. I don’t care if they are a gang member or not. Prison should not be fatal.

Boy do I hate all these liberal awards and affidavits that state he was a good boy who just went astray. I agree with everyone who called him a scumbag. BUT I have to agree with DS- no one should die when in a captive/prison environment. No civil service employee/officer of the court/etc., has the right to be judge, jury, and/or executioner. Last I checked there were references in the constitution regarding due process and safeguards while in captivity.
All said, I am still a bit to the right of Attila the Hun politically, but no one has the right to unilaterally kill another.
