A new Idaho state law banning texting while driving goes into effect in July, but some law enforcement officials say enforcing the rule could be tough.
Kootenai County Sheriff’s Maj. Ben Wolfinger told the Coeur d’Alene Press that while he thinks the bill is a good idea, it will be difficult to enforce because officers won’t be easily able to tell whether someone is texting or dialing. He says the law allows drivers to dial phone calls.
Idaho Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter signed the legislation this month, making Idaho the 37th state to enact a texting-while-driving ban.
