You Tell Us: Can California’s Workers’ Comp System Be Fixed?

A meeting between labor officials and handful of large, self-employed firms has resulted in a nearly 300-page proposal that may be turned into a bill and taken up by Legislature as early as this week.

The proposal has the backing of labor, and so far it seems the blessing so far of Gov. Jerry Brown. But many Republican lawmakers say they have been left in the dark, and the California Applicants’ Attorneys Association has vowed to oppose it. As for the insurance industry? They’ve been left mostly on the sidelines.
