Southern California Worker Dies in Tuna Plant Oven

A worker died in an oven on Thursday at a Southern California plant that produces Bumble Bee tuna.

Jose Melena, 62, was cooked to death in a steam oven at the Bumble Bee Foods processing plant in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. Erika Monterroza, a spokeswoman for the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, told CNN.

The canning facility has been shut down until at least Monday.

The Whittier Daily News reported Melena was found shortly before 7 a.m. at the plant, and Monterroza has said it’s unclear how he ended up in the oven. The agency has launched an investigation she said.
