Wow. I live in Phoenix for now and the most startling effect of these dust storms (or hubba hubbas)is that when there is rain at the same time all the stray cats in my neighbor turn brown and I try to brush them clean. A new law banning dust storms should be a priority
There are many things that could be done to reduce the impact of these storms on the driving public. One of the best would be to put a tunnel up over the interstate so that we could control the dust getting to the cars. So what if it would cause more than the current GDP of the state if one live could be saved we should do it.
I have lived in AZ for a long time and the only way to stop this is to educate the public that when in a dust storm pull off the highway turn off your lights and wait it out. Unfortunately too many drivers are in too big of a hurry and insist on driving 75 mph when they can not see, maybe if we made it a felony to continue to drive under these conditions folks would take it seriously.
I think his comments were taken out of content (just a bit). He made some suggestions of the sound barrier walls (similar to the urban areas) that would hopefully prevent at least some of the dust/sand from the freeway. Another suggestion was creating a green belt (not practical in the desert). Another suggestion was limiting rotating agriculture (where there would be plowed fields) next to the Interstate (possibly have orchards instead). I don’t think any of the ideas would fly on a practical matter. A well meaning political man talking before thinking.
“Farley says he’s asking the state Department of Transportation what can be done”
Well if that isn’t as useful as teats on a boar then I don’t know what is.
Outlaw dust and/or people. “All we are is dust in wind”.
Huh! How about we ask the Department of Interior or the US Senate or whatever legislative body can be done about hurricanes? Ridiculous!
This almost makes me ashamed to be from Arizona. People died in that crash and because it was a close call for him it needs to be legislated??
Controlling Mother Nature isn’t going to happen!
guess, this guy slept through his high school and college science classes.
His commment is like say we must repeal the ‘law of gravity’ because it wasn’t passed by the legislature.
