Montana Medical Marijuana Industry Grows Despite Restrictions

    Note that in Montana, there really isn’t such a thing as a “dispensary,” in the same sense as there are dispensaries in other states. Montana only allows for caregivers, although some will open shops for their patients. So The figures represented in the story are caregivers, and a small fraction of them have “dispensaries.”

    In terms of growth, the more remarkable figure is that the current law required the number of caregivers to drop to zero in (I believe) October of 2012, and the state essentially started over. Despite the state legislature’s effort to remove businesses – caregivers or otherwise – from the scene, and the federal government’s effort to end medical marijuana in the state at around the same time, we are back to the numbers we had in 2009, right before the big rush.
